Question:
Is it hard to breathe at the summit of Snowdon?
2013-08-05 09:47:59 UTC
Me and friends want to climb Snowdon for charity, we are all teenagers. We haven't really trained and we don't have any hiking experience. I'm not sure if I could hack the climb and I am worried about the lack of oxygen at the top and how dangerous it is. Could anyone tell me how hard it is to breathe?
Any other details I would need to know would be appreciated.

Like Jenson said, breathing is fine. The only problem I had when I went up is that I'm not the fittest person and I'm slightly asthmatic. I had to use my inhaler every now and then. My friends were fine and could have easily gone ahead of me. It was a good experience, though, and I made it up in the end. A great achievement. If you don't like heights I wouldn't recommend some parts though, haha!

You will not have any problems breathing on the summit of Mount Snowdon.

You should however try and get fit for your climb. Nothing major but I would suggest long walks with a backpack on your back.

Don't forget the weather can change with in minutes on any mountain. The higher you go up it will get colder, there might be low mist etc. Always pack warm clothes and waterproofs.

Enjoy your climb, I climbed it many years ago, its a great day out!

Its only about 3500m. This is a baby mountain compared to most of the mountains around the world. So it isn't really high enough to notice a drop in oxygen levels. It's a nice easy mountain for beginners, I did it as a kid.

Isn't that like 1,300 meters?

No, you aren't going to run into the breathing issues that people on 5,000 meter peaks do.

No its only about 3000ft, I went up there when I was about 7 and I was fine, didn't notice any difference in my breathing.
